"Hamasuge" plants are in bloom by the tea garden. They are perennial plants in the Cyperaceae family that commonly grow in coastal areas. Although their Japanese name comes from the fact that they often grow on beaches, they can also be found in fields and along roadsides. Their underground tubers are called "Koubushi" and are used in traditional herbal medicine.
