"ホオノキ(hoonoki)" is in bloom in the second Oak Hill. Their petals are about 15 cm in diameter and their leaves are more than 30 cm long. So, it’s said that their flowers and leaves are the largest in Japanese trees. Their leaves were used as plates for food a long time ago. These days, "朴葉みそ(hoobamiso)", which is miso grilled on the "ホオノキ" leaf, is a well known local dish in Hida area, Gifu.
